Madison County Fair

After we got home from the beach on Wednesday, we unpacked while the boys snuggled on the couch and watched some tv. Greg's parents were sleeping on the couch pull out while they were here, and Evan loved all the extra blankets and pillows.

We got back a few hours before Greg's family did since we left earlier, so we decided to make a quick trip to Sam's Club and get a birthday cake. There's several birthdays in Greg's family over the next month and we wanted to celebrate them while everybody was here. We needed the cake to say "Happy Birthday, Greg, Lew, Eric, Carrie, Evan, & Carter" but Sam's Club wouldn't put that many names on a cake. So, we instead we had them write this.

We dropped the cake off at the house and headed to the Madison County Fair. Because of the weather we didn't think we'd get another chance to go, so we went ahead and took the boys even though we were all pretty tired and I'm glad we did. The boys had a blast. The petting zoo, kids zone, and food stands opened at 4:00 but the rides and shows didn't start until 6:00, so we were one of the few people there, which was nice.

The boys LOVED the petting zoo. They both really love animals.

They met a little "friend" and they all enjoyed talking about and pointing to the turtle. ;)

Last year at the Greene County Fair in August, Carter wouldn't have anything to do with the animals because he was scared. I'm so glad that he's come around, he's not scared in the least and loves petting all animals. He just goes up to them and is so gentle with them.

So sweet.

They both loved this camel.

The camel kept licking Evan and he thought it was so funny. He would squeal and laugh, it was really cute.

And of course, the boys favorite animal was two dogs that one of the exhibitors brought with them. They played with those dogs for such a long time.

After the petting zoo, we headed over to the Kid Zone. They had a lot of fun activities including crafts, a story corner, etc. but the boys were really only old enough for the corn box. You'd think they'd be tired of sand toys after the beach, but they played and played.

It was so hot and humid and getting a little late, so we had to promise the boys to take them by the tractors and get a treat to talk them out of the corn box. As soon as Evan saw the tractor, he said "ride, ride". That's not a word he's said to us before. Carter has been obsessed with tractors since Papaw took them for a ride on one in November. Obviously, Evan has not forgot about that either.

We got the boys a snow cone to share to cool off.

Greg and I decided to try something new. Deep Fried Oreos. They were really good actually. Carter was not interested in a bite, but Evan ate one or two of them. He thought they were delicious.

Since, a snow cone and an oreo are not a dinner. We stopped by Tastee Freeze on the way home to get the boys a hot dog, some fries, and water. We wanted to be able to put them in the bath as soon as we got home. The boys thought they were hot stuff sitting at the counter like big boys.

Even though we were exhausted and it was hot, we're so glad we decided to go to the fair. It was only $10.00 for all of us to get in and it was worth every penny. The boys had such a great time. We're planning on going to another one next week.
